The Economic Benefits of Updating Regulations that Unnecessarily Limit Non-Geostationary Satellite Orbit Systems

This paper, authored by a former Commissioner of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission, Harold Furchtgott-Roth, analyzes the profound economic impact generated by updating epfd limits in the Ku and Ka frequency bands. Based on a novel engineering study, the paper finds that updating epfd limits would result in welfare benefits to all customers ranging from $10 billion to $100 billion. The greatest benefit would likely be felt by many of the 2 billion people who are not connected to the Internet.
